Upgrade PHP 5.6 / 7.0 / 7.1 to 7.2

Background

Outdated PHP versions are no longer officially supported by the developers of PHP and emerging security vulnerabilities are no longer fixed. For this reason support for PHP 5.6 / 7.0 / 7.1 will be discontinued on all servers as of 01.12.2020 and PHP will be updated to version 7.2.

Common web applications

The following list gives you information about which versions of common web applications are not compatible with PHP 7.2 In this case, we recommend that you upgrade the corresponding application. Please contact the person responsible for your web site or your web agency.

WordPress:
WordPress itself is compatible as of version 4.9.3, but all themes and plugins must be compatible as well. You can check this with the following plugin. It scans your application including themes and plugins and shows you which components are compatible with PHP 7.2 and which need to be updated.

Typo3:
Compatible from version 7.x

Drupal:
Compatible from version 8.2.6

Joomla:
Compatible from version 3.9.x, but all templates and extensions must be compatible as well

Magento:
Magento 1 and 2 are compatible, but the patch "PHP 7.2 Support" must be installed!

Contao:
Compatible from version 3.5.5

Change PHP version yourself

You can adjust the PHP version in your hosting yourself at any time. Here you will find the corresponding instructions. It is strongly recommended to change the version before the switch in December at least for testing purposes to check if everything works as usual with the new PHP version.
